California Dreaming in San Jose, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz
This post is part of the Hipmunk Hotels campaign.
When it comes to California, it’s easy to dream about the beautiful oceans and easy life under the sun. If you’re going to enjoy the surf and sun, check out these cities that make California an ideal vacation spot.
San Jose is in the heart of Silicon Valley and surrounded with rolling hills and blue skies. It’s known for technology, architecture, and more, and as a tourist, you’ll never get tired of San Jose’s offerings.
For families, couples, and all travelers alike, San Jose has two great options for lodging. The EZ 8 Motel is clean, comfortable, and best of all, budget-friendly. If you’re looking for a spot to rest your head at night, friendly service, and even a place to bring the family pet, then this is the place to go at about $60-80 a night.
However, if a great location and art deco charm is your thing, then stay at the Hotel de Anza in downtown. Talk about pillow top mattresses, upscale bath amenities, and even a complimentary Midnight Snack Box! The hotel itself has a nail salon, three dining options including a lounge, paintings and sculptures all around to enjoy, and even jazz on the weekends. All this starts at about $225 a night. Let your hotel experience be part of your San Jose trip.
Santa Barbara is best known for the gorgeous Santa Ynez Mountains that provide a dramatic backdrop to this city in central California. With quick access to the beach and deeply rooted in Spanish colonial heritage, this city provides constant eye candy wherever you go.
To get a taste of this Spanish colonialism, stay at the Spanish Garden Inn where there is Spanish-Mediterranean decoration throughout the hotel. This boutique hotel starting at $250 a night allows you to fully relax by soaking in your tub then sitting out by the fireplace in your room. It is important to note that not all rooms are accessible by elevator so if walking up stairs isn’t part of a relaxing vacation, then call ahead of time.
If you want to get a piece of American history, stay at the Montecito Inn built by the infamous Charlie Chaplin in 1928. It has a pool, hot tub, spa, fitness center, and other amenities. There’s heated floors in the bathroom and multilingual staff for international travelers so you’ll be comfortable wherever you are in the hotel. Rooms start at $325 a night.
Santa Cruz is all about the beach, surfing, and state parks. So if you’re a nature lover, then head to Santa Cruz to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the ocean and forest.
For your beach home away from home, check out the Ocean Pacific Lodge starting at $139 a night. It has everything that you’d want at home such as a Keurig, microwave, refrigerator and more. Enjoy a complimentary breakfast at the hotel, go for a swim, then once you’re full of energy, head to the open outdoors.
