Yin Yoga at Delight Yoga Studio
Yin yoga or restorative yoga has never been on my radar. It’s been all about vinyasa or bikram and getting toned.
However, when I moved to Amsterdam, I couldn’t ignore how sick I’ve been for three years and had to work on healing ASAP. Thanks to yin yoga at Delight Yoga studio, my journey to healing has begun.
How I Heard about Delight Yoga
I heard about Delight Yoga from my friend, Saliha. She started doing yin yoga at Delight Yoga studio to cope with the constant overcast skies of Amsterdam and physical flexibility.
When I told her about the back pain I’ve had for three years and how on a good day I have nerve pains in my entire left leg, left hip, right shoulder and arm, both hands and feet, and one side of my face (yes, that’s what I call a good day!), she immediately suggested yin yoga. She said that the deep stretches into the tissue and meditation would help manage my pain.
After spending thousands on traditional and holistic back care, I thought, “Why not?” Here’s what I discovered:
I’ve fallen in love with yoga all over again!
Yin Yoga at Delight Yoga
My first class at Delight Yoga was a beginner’s yin yoga class with Skadi. It was just what I needed mentally and physically.
Yin yoga is a type of yoga where you hold a series of poses for 3-5 minutes each. These poses are essentially stretches that helps your muscle, tissue, meridian lines, internal organs, mind, and everything in between.
What I loved about this was that I was physically benefiting my body by stretching while having mini meditation sessions for 3-5 minutes. It was the perfect blend of physical and mental activity.
With each stretch, Skadi talked about our body, mind and spirit were benefiting so I had a great learning experience too.
Even with back pains, this class was so gentle. I was full of energy after class, which has been a rare occurrence in my life lately with 24/7 pain.
Do I think this class will solve my back problems? No, but it’ll help my mental state in observing pain and acknowledging it instead of pushing it away or ignoring it. As long as my mental state is improving, then at least some part of me is getting better.
I wholly encourage anyone to take a yin yoga class. Anyone can do it!
Did I tell you that you use pillows to support yourself and rest on during the poses too? Yes, it’s quite comfortable.
Delight Yoga Studio
As for the yoga studio, it is so comfortable and homey. I’ve only gone to yoga at gyms or Yoga to the People so experiencing a premium (yet affordable) yoga studio was new to me.
Delight Yoga does it right with aromatic soaps, beautiful decor, and complimentary healing Pukkah tea.
