Hi, I’m Sarah— a 20-something New Yorker living in Amsterdam and traveling the world since 2005.
I live to travel and travel to eat, and somewhere in between, I tend to fall off the beaten path.
I love sharing with my friends and family tips for places I’ve been to and what’s the best way to make it happen. Now with this blog, I can stop writing the same e-mails over and over 20x and refer them all to one link with a simple copy & paste— whew!
My Love of Food
My love of food has been a constant evolution since I was young. There is no defining moment that turned me into this person obsessed with knowing where my food comes from, how it’s prepared, how it tastes (obviously), and where its waste ends up on our dear planet earth.
However, there are many people who have helped me become passionate about food, especially my widowed mom who passed away when I was 10.
Although I was young, I have many memories of her (thank you impeccable long-term memory). Most of these memories are of her in the kitchen where I’d be her good little helper.
Starting when I was four, I’d pick off the ends of bean sprouts for Korean ban-chan (side dish) or fluffing flour for her famous pineapple turnover cakes. These few moments we had together in this life became positively engrained in me at a young age and followed me into adulthood.
I went full out foodie when I moved to New York City, the foodie capital of the world.
My Love for Traveling
I caught the travel bug when I was 17. My friend, Diane, and I went to France by ourselves for three weeks to “study French”.
It turned out to be more of a trip to eat baguettes and croissants, but the love of discovering a new culture and its food has been never-ending since.
We both live in Europe now– how cool!
From then on, I decided I would visit a new country every year and explore the world as much as I could. It’s really helped to heal my broken heart after losing both my parents.
The more I travel, the more grateful I am for being alive. All the people, places, and experiences this small world has to offer keeps me humble and happy.
Let’s discover this beautiful world together! Get started with my blog here.
