High Tea Time at Gartine
Do you like a soothing pot of tea with dainty, tasty snacks served on cute plates? Then high tea time at Gartine in Amsterdam is a must!
I brought my best friend here for her 27th birthday, and it’s found a permanent spot on my where to eat in Amsterdam list.
I heard about this little gem from Francesca, one of my yoga teachers at Delight Yoga who recently moved to Amsterdam from San Francisco.
Whenever I meet anyone from New York, San Francisco, or any other cities with high culinary tastes, I always ask them for their opinion on where to eat, and this suggestion did not disappoint. It was the complete package of experience and tastiness.
When you sit down, your table is adorably set with fine china decorated in dainty little paintings. As you settle into your seat, you easily take in the quaint and charming decor of the restaurant that’s subtly colored with light blue walls.
It almost feels quite understated for a fantastic brunch and tea place, but I like understated, humble, and any feelings along those lines so it was right up my alley!
High Tea Time
High tea time is loosely between lunch and dinner so we made reservations for 2:30PM and had a late breakfast.
It’s supposed to be a light meal, but this meal was anything but small. We left extremely full and practically keeling over. This is an extremely rare occurrence considering both of us could out eat most of our guy friends. #livelikealady
High tea time at Gartine is quite yummy. Here’s everything we ate.
The first course was this white bean soup with a hint of truffle oil, which I smelled the second I walked in the door. At first, I thought the soup was a bit salty, but my tongue adjusted to its flavor. By the end of the soup, I was sad it was gone.
After the soup, we got sandwiches with cumin cheese and a cauliflower compote, a savory muffin with cream of Meikaas and ham, a profiterole with salmon, and a vegetable quiche with two pots of tea. This was only 16 euros a person!
Did I mention this place uses vegetables from their garden? Love it!
By the time we had the soup, profiterole, and muffin, we were already ridiculously full. We were also confused because normally we eat large amounts of food. We concluded that it was the tea that filled us up.
From this we learned, “When trying to eat less, drink lots of flavorful tea!”
We wanted all of their delicious looking desserts such as the Mississippi Mud Cake with Chestnut Frosting but couldn’t handle eating more– that damn tea!
Overall, this was a really cute experience with all the dainty plates and silverware, and the food itself was fresh and tasty. I would definitely recommend this place to a family or friend to try out. Specifically, I’m thinking of my mother-in-law when she comes visits us from the US. 🙂
Helpful Information on Gartine
Would I go back to this restaurant? Yes, but I would make space for some dessert or try their breakfast! I heard the egg dishes are great.
Pro Tip: You must make a reservation even for High Tea Time because this restaurant is small and cannot accommodate walk-ins. I would call two weeks ahead to be safe!
