If you asked me what a typical, old school New England town looked like, I would point you to Essex, Connecticut. This quaint old town has a lot of history and charm, and it has Griswold Inn!
Griswold Inn is a cluster of old homes and buildings made into one hotel covering the “downtown” area. It’s been in movies and tv shows, was the spot for protests for Women’s Rights, and housed guests and workers who made a stop at the river by Griswold Inn going from Hartford to New York on the steamboat.
We chose to have our wedding here because this town is close to our hometown where Mike & I met, and such a great place for all of our guests to have a mini weekend getaway.
Things to Do in Essex
There’s the river with spectacular views, a train yard for children, and plenty of parks to hike around and be submerged in nature.
Not a typical spot for a vacation, but if you’re in Connecticut or Massachusetts and want a simple and quiet weekend getaway, Essex, Connecticut might be the spot!
